Around 50 cars have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.
Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were marked, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Officers say they were alerted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored fluid.
The substance had been placed in the pattern of a banned symbol, they reported.
Police then discovered many other vandalized cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement report initial examinations show the liquid was most likely human blood.
"Currently there is no clue as to its origin; authorities are currently not aware of any injuries in association with the occurrence," they added.
Local authorities announced they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the community for tips.
An important representative said the vandalism left him without words and needed to be addressed promptly.
"This event affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right attack five years ago," he stated on social media, mentioning the death of nine people by a gunman aiming at people of migrant background in five years prior.
